Prevention of Nosocomial Infections using Kleanik Self-Disinfecting Drain System

KLEANIKTM systems by Imperial Surgical is a patented technology for use in critical hospital wards including ICU, NICU, Oncology, Transplant and Burn Units.

Hospital sinks (p-traps) are a major source of aerosol borne infections and pathogens.  The biofilm formed in the p-trap is where micro-organisms multiply in waste water.  The drain trap is an open reservoir of bacteria, fungi, other pathogens and organisms.

Bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa can survive up to 70 minutes on the hands of hospital personnel and greatly increases the transmission to the patient. When water runs into the sink drain, aerosols containing these bacteria are released into the surrounding air infecting critically ill patients.

KLEANIKTM provides:

KLEANIKTM prevents the adherence of micro-organisms to the inner wall of the p-trap (biofilm formation) by vibration combined with the prevention of bacterial growth and multiplication by heat disinfection.

  • Continuous disinfection
  • Fully automatic
  • Self-regulating
  • Easy installation
  • Reduced hospital costs
  • Positive environmental impact due to very low energy consumption, eliminating the need to flush the sink drains with ineffective toxic chemical cleaners.
